GOALS AND ACTIVITIES

 The Union of the Architects in Bulgaria (UAB) is a voluntary professional organization of architects regardless of their activities. It has been registered in court as a non-profit association in compliance with the Law of Legal Entities Non-profit Associations.

 UAB is the continuator of the constructive traditions and the successor of the Bulgarian Technical Society (established in 1885), the Bulgarian Engineering Architectural Society (established in 1893), the Society of the Bulgarian Architects (established in 1926), the Union of the Bulgarian Engineers and Architects (established in 1937), and the Scientific and Technical Union (for the period from its establishment in 1949 to 1965) – with regard to the activities of the Architectural Society.

 UAB stands proxy for its members and protects their professional interests to state, municipal and international institutions, legal and physical persons. UAB is a member of International Union of Architects (UIA).

 UAB aims at:

  1. Winning the recognition of architecture as an art and strengthening the positions of the architectural creation values and results.
  2. Protecting and uniting the professional interests of architects as well as working for the harmonious and stable building of territory and settlements, improving the architecture education and the normative regulations in the area of the architecture.
  3. Assisting the creative and professional development of its members.
  4. Assisting its members in solving their social problems.
  5. Developing and extending its professional co-operation with the Chamber of the Architects in Bulgaria (CAB) and other related Bulgarian, foreign and international organizations in the area of the architecture.

 The UAB achievements are realized with the efforts of all members or in co-operation with CAB and other related organizations. To achieve its goals UAB:

  1. Works to popularize its goals and objectives as well as the creative achievements of its members through its own and other public and private media.
  2. Arranges and organizes public discussions and makes statements with regard to problems, which are important to the architecture and the society and which are connected to the UAB goals.
  3. Works for the recognition of competition as a basic principle for the assignment of architectural projects.
  4. By virtue of Article 40 of the Copyright and Neighboring Rights Act, it consults and protects the rights of its members, such rights being granted to UAB for collective management.
  5. Supports, develops and improves the information system for its members with regard to issues and news in the area of architecture.
  6. Builds a system for communicating with its members for solving their creative and social problems.
  7. Independently and in co-operation with Bulgarian and foreign state and municipal agencies or with Bulgarian, foreign and international non-governmental organizations and physical persons:


  8. 7.1. Develops qualification and re-qualification programs for its members.

    7.2. Assists in the developing and improving of the architectural education and supports young architects get into the swing of the profession.

    7.3. Realizes joint projects in the area of architecture.

    7.4. Assists in the developing of the Bulgarian culture and architecture.

    7.5. Develops and implements programs for synchronizing the architectural activities with the international regulations.

  9. Provides for the recreation of its members in its own centers.

 UAB activities are:

  1. Creation, distribution and protection of cultural values in the area of architecture.
  2. Organization of cultural and educational activities for informing the society about its members’ achievements in the area of architecture.
  3. Synchronization of the architectural activities with the international standards in the professional practice.
  4. Organization of public discussions about architectural problems and standard regulations, which are important to UAB and its members.
  5. Organization and realization of competitions in the area of architecture and awarding of the distinguished projects.
  6. Qualification and re-qualification of the members in the area of architecture.
  7. Assistance in the development of the architectural education.
  8. Consultations and protection of the rights of its members, such rights being granted to UAB for collective management.
  9. Consultations, preparation and presentation of expert opinions in the area of architecture.
  10. Documentation and protection of the monuments of architecture.
